Daily Execution Habits: How to Build Momentum by Doing Something Everyday

Daily Execution Habits: How to Build Momentum by Doing Something Everyday

We all have hidden desires and secret fantasies; dreams of launching a great company, becoming a sportsperson, becoming famous online, or something else that we often daydream about. Usually, in the daily busyness of life, we tend to deprioritize this and move on with the everyday grind. We may choose to remember, but the task seems herculean and we do not know where to start.

In the corporate world, cultivating these daily execution habits is what transforms distant career ambitions into tangible operational success. There is a simple, easy, and highly effective way to deal with these big goals and projects: #JDSE or Just Do Something Everyday. Every single day, do anything that moves you forward in this direction.

For example, if you want to get a perfect, six-pack, super-fit body (a task that seems impossible), just do something everyday in this direction:

  • Walk a kilometer

  • Run for 5 minutes

  • Do 10 push-ups

  • Eat a salad

  • Meditate for 2 minutes

  • Join a gym

  • Watch a YouTube video on fitness

  • Write down your plan in a diary

Some actions are small, some insignificant, but it does not matter. What matters is that it is something.

In my executive training sessions, I often remind leaders that consistency always trumps intensity when attempting to scale a major project or a career. If you want to land a great new role in a new industry, you can again just do something everyday:

  • Update your LinkedIn profile

  • Send an email to 3 references telling them you are looking for work

  • Call a headhunter

  • Research some companies online

  • Practice for an interview

Again, it does not matter what the specific action is, as long as it is something everyday.

These small actions build momentum and positivity. They drive focus and bring into your vision more opportunities for you to progress. The small actions also take away any stigma of failure and allow us to move forward. Lo and behold, the small actions everyday one day yield a big result.

Don’t think too much. Just do something everyday in pursuit of your goals. To discover more real-world frameworks for building unshakeable habits and scaling your personal output, secure your copy of my book, 10X Productive Leader.
